Use these in place of your trailer hub's dust cap to increase bearing life by making sure that the hub is properly greased. A spring loaded piston maintains pressure inside the hub thereby making it less likely that water would penetrate the hub. It also helps keep grit and dirt away from the bearings inside the hub. However one should be cautious not to over-pump the bearing protector because too much pressure will blow the rear seal at the back of the hub and allow grease to escape the hub and therefore allow water inside the hub.
The most accurate way to determine which size you need is to read the outer bearing number. This will indicate the hub bore inner diameter, and the size cap you will need for your trailer hub. Here is a chart of the most common outer bearing sizes and the hub bores they correspond with:
BEARING - BORE
11949 - 1.78"
44643 - 1.98"
44649 - 1.98"
